Fulham Football Club Foundation & Kingston Partners Launch Joint Mental Health Initiative

On 9Th March, 2016 Fulham Football Club Foundation announced a new partnership with The Royal Borough of Kingston, Kingston NHS CCG, Mind in Kingston, Balance CIC and Comfort Care Services to provide football and employability training for residents of Kingston with mental health needs.

FFCF hosted an official partnership launch dubbed ‘United Kingston’ at Craven Cottage. Partners and residents of Kingston gathered at Craven Cottage to learn more about the collaboration and upcoming programmes. Dr. Phil Moore, Clinical Lead Mental Health, Kingston NHS CCG, backed the partnership as he enthusiastically encouraged residents to get involved.

Speaking of the launch, Amy O’Brien, Business Development Manager at FFCF, said, “We are thrilled to be working closely with such a knowledgeable group of partners with proven track records in the community. We know that social connectedness and physical activity are hugely important for an individual’s wellbeing and we’re excited to bring our skills and experience to the table.

This unique collaboration gives Kingston residents with mental health needs access to two exciting programmes:

Mind United FC

Football training, including 5-a-side and 7-a-side sessions, and competition in the Surrey FA Football For All League.

Fulham Work Hub

Tailored employability training that includes access to accredited qualifications, mentoring and volunteering, work experience, and behind the scenes access to Craven Cottage.

The first Fulham Work Hub cohort produced tremendous results, with 100% of participants gaining at least one qualification, and reporting improved health and wellbeing, as well as confidence and self-esteem.

FFCF look forward to continuing a successful partnership with their partners in Kingston, and making a meaningful impact to residents of the local community.
