NOVIS to Hold Project Meeting in Milan

From 3-5 February, the EFDN representatives within the NOVISPORT programme will attend the first project meeting of the pan-European NOVISPORT Programme in Milan, Italy.

NOVISPORT – No Violence in Sport

From January 2018 onwards, the NOVISPORT programme, coordinated by CGFS, the Italian Youth Centre for Physical Training will be delivered by EFDN in partnership with 10 organisations from seven different EU member states, Italy, Romania, The Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria and Poland. The programme will run until March 2020.

The programme aims to address challenges such as violence and intolerance linked to sport events and promote the culture of sport, fair play and teamwork. NOVISPORT sets out to have direct impact on young participants who will be educated non-formally to combat violence in sport and promote the real sport culture and true European sport values. Participants will increase their responsibility, empowerment and active participation in the prevention of violence in sport. Furthermore, in this way the project will lead to the development of a new educated young generation in Europe. In the long-term, this approach will also benefit the participants’ involvement in society. Additionally, the project aims at having direct impact on sport stakeholders in order to increase the awareness and visibility of initiatives combating episodes of violence in sport. This shall contribute to the future development of new partnership and sport networks across Europe.

The overall purpose of the project is to prevent and fight against incidences of violence, racism and any form of intolerance in sports, particularly in youth sport sectors and at amateur level.

The programme objectives are:

  • Educating young people about the true sport culture and values of sport
  • Developing training activities through a teachers’ methodological guide and Open Educational Resources
  • Promoting active participation of sport stakeholders (sport clubs) in combating violence in sport
  • Raising awareness on the importance of combating violence and racism in sport
  • Sharing experience and best practice in the field

Sport Educational Camps

The project’s core activities are Sport Educational Camps for young people in all seven European partner countries. The Sport e-camps consist of a mix of activities such as lessons and workshops on sport, non-formal education, creative working groups, games and sporting activities. The sport camps are targeted at young people aged 10-18 years old which have fewer opportunities as regards social, cultural and economic aspects.

NOVISPORT aims to establish the approach of Sport e-camps at a European level. The e-camps make it possible to provide and share a Teachers Methodological Guide and a public database of Open Educational Resources.

Furthermore, the NOVISPORT initiative will develop and test an approach on how clubs and federations can directly participate in combating violence in sport.

Getting Sport Stakeholders involved

Within the programme delivery EFDN, in particular, takes on the responsibility of organising networking activities and the exchange of best practices among all involved parties.

The first No Violence in Sport Project Meeting

As an official project partner of the NOVISPORT project programme, EFDN will attend the seminar in Milan to share experiences and transfer practices in combating violence in sport. During the meeting, the EFDN representatives will attend a workshop with local sport stakeholders, present on promising practices for combating violence in sport and the sport facilities of Comunita Nuova. In the framework of meetings and encounters with local authorities and institutions active in the field of sport, education and youth, the host partners will organise outdoor activities.
