Werder Bremen player Veljkovic visits kids tournament

Milos Veljkovic, professional player of Werder Bremen, visited the grand finale of the ‘Tenever-League’. The event was launched by the St.Petri child and youth welfare service and is supported by SV Werder Bremen.

The kick-off of this year’s Tenever league already took place in April 2018. Since then, the kids met six times to compete in small tournaments. A total of ten mixed teams from U7 to U13 are playing in the league. Five months after the start, the winner was determined on the football field. The 16-year-old Bernhard, known by the kids as “Bernie”, has been in charge of the ‘Tenever League’ for a year now.

“If it’s fun for the children, it’s also fun for me,” said the 16-year-old about his work in the ‘SPIELRAUM’ project and adds: “Football is a good change from school for the children.”

As part of  the ‘SPIELRAUM’ project, SV Werder Bremen is supporting the initiative with the aim of offering children and young people the opportunity to have fun together and to encourage them to play ball games. Michael Arends, a staff member of Werder’s CSR department, is happy about the positive response: “This great event is the end result of a year of hard work by the coaches.” Hubertus Hess-Grunewald, president of the club, also visited the event. “People also experience SV Werder outside the Weser Stadium. That’s why it’s important that we make an impact with projects like this. This is also the reason why SV Werder is in the hearts of the people of Bremen, “said Hess-Grunewald.

The highlight was the visit of Milos Veljkovic, who once kicked the ball himself on football fields like those in Tenever. The number 13 of the ‘Green-Whites’ told WERDER.TV about his childhood: “I spent my time from morning to night on the football field. As a young player, you should always enjoy playing football with your friends. I can say that from my own experiences. ”

The entertainment at the event was provided by Bremen NEXT, a radio channel who were on site with a DJ. After playing, the kids could eat salads, grilled sausages and all sorts of vegetables. “The event was a great end to this season and we look forward to all upcoming projects”, summarised Michael Arends.
