Aberdeen FC Community Trust Youth Work Celebration

Last week, Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) invited participants, partners and parents to Pittodrie Stadium to celebrate a successful year of various youth work programmes.

Over 30 young people from Seaton Primary School, Torry Academy and 2 primary schools in Torry came along.

Everyone who attended the evening participates in either Footy Tea, a physical activity session followed by healthy meal cooked by club chef which promotes manners and respect, Breakfast Club, a physical activity session followed by healthy breakfast cooked by the club chef which promotes breakfast and getting set for the day or Torry United, an educational input session followed by physical activity session which is a transitional programme all about uniting the 3 schools in Torry.

A successful year for both children and parents

Community Projects Officer Dean McBain said “AFCCT is extremely proud to continuously grow as a charity and now we are working a lot more in ‘areas of regeneration’. Providing the opportunity for all areas of Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire to have access to Aberdeen FC and the Community Trust is something we will grow in the future and is currently showing signs of success & progress in the young people.

The event brought together 2 diverse areas of Aberdeen to celebrate the young participants efforts throughout the 2016/17 season and gave parents a chance to give their feedback to help shape future programmes in Torry & Seaton.

One parent commented, “My child was new to the Torry United Project but now she is out of the house a lot and has new friends!

Another parent added, “My whole family are now more interested in football and also now eat healthily because of Footy Tea.

Some participants said, “I used to be bullied when playing with the boys and it made me really sad and not want to play. I used to sit in the car and be sad instead but since Torry United started I’m way more confident and have no problem playing at all.

One more said, “It has got me more into fitness and healthy eating and I am now not scared of vegetables!
