‘Ajax Foodball’ nominated for ‘Social Project Eredivisie’

AFC Ajax is in the race for the title ‘Social Project Eredivisie’ with the project ‘Ajax Foodball’. With this project, the club helps vulnerable (Amsterdam) youth to develop a healthy lifestyle. Besides Ajax, there are eight other Eredivisie clubs in the race for the title.

Amongst Amsterdam youth, an unhealthy lifestyle and lack of exercise is a big problem, which leads to health problems later in life. With the Ajax Foodball, the club makes young people aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. During the project, young people are given the unique opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at Ajax’s training complex De Toekomst. They will spend a morning in the kitchen and in Ajax’s youth academy. In this way, the participants take the first steps towards a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, Ajax hopes to inspire the youngsters to develop their own talents with the help of the catering team, nutritionists, trainers and players.

The Ajax Foundation believes and invests in a society in which all children have equal opportunities and the prospect of a future in which they can develop their talents. In this context, Ajax organises various projects and events for vulnerable children and young people under the age of 19 in (greater) Amsterdam. In this way, the club hopes to strengthen the resilience of children and young people by increasing their self-awareness.

The public and an expert jury together determine which social projects end up in the top 3 and thus receive a project contribution. The winning club receives 50.000 euro and the numbers 2 and 3 receive 30.000 and 20.000 euro of the Friends Lottery to realise the project. The winner will be announced on Friday 26 November. ‘Maatschappelijk (Social) Project Eredivisie’ is an initiative of the Friends Lottery and the Eredivisie CV. With this competition they offer all eighteen clubs the chance to realise an innovative social project and contribute to a healthy and strong society.

The ofther EFDN members that were nominated for this Award include FC Twente with ‘Integratie via FC Twente’, N.E.C. Nijmegen with ‘Wij geven rood, zwart, groen bloed’, Sparta Rotterdam with ‘Sparta Talentum’ and Willem II with ‘De Uitblinkers’. Congratulations to so many inspiring social projects!
