Benfica Foundation fulfills João’s and Diogo’s dreams

6 and 17 year-old João and Diogo share the same dream: meeting the Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s football players. Last week, their biggest wish became true.

The Benfica Foundation realised a special day at Caixal Futebol Campus, the training center of the Portuguese club, for them.

Who are João and Diogo? João is a boy, who flew from Azores to Lisbon to visit the ‘Instituto Portugues de Oncologia’, which is based in Lisbon. There he received Leucemia treatment. Despite his illness, he arrived at Seixal with the typical energy of a 6-year-old kid. Excited to meet his idol Mitroglou. The Greek striker gave him a signed jersey of the team and a scarf that had Mitroglou’s face on it.

Diogo is from Santa Iria, a small city in the north of Lisbon. He suffers from Crohn disease. Nice and careful, he got along with the little Joao. As a huge Benfica fan, Diogo never misses any games at Benfica’s stadium Estadio da Luz.

Now getting the opportunity to spend time at Benfica’s training center was an unforgettable surprise. There, he was able to talk to all players, which he of course recognised and for sure, he will not forget this special moment.
