Chelsea Foundation raised more than £41.000 for Plan International

Chelsea Foundation’s dedicated match for Plan International against Newcastle United in December helped raise more than £41,000 for their global charity partner.
The annual match, which followed on from the announcement that Plan would remain their partner for a further three years after this season, celebrated the good work they are doing together as well as raising vital funds.
Prior to the 3-1 victory the players warmed up in Plan t-shirts, and Plan International CEO Tanya Barron was a guest of Chairman Bruce Buck in the Directors’ Box.
The club donated a percentage of the ticket sales to Plan and there were bucket collections at the stadium through which supporters gave generously, with a total raised of £41,538.
The money raised is going to support the Plan International and Chelsea FC Champions of Change programme in Colombia.
Tanya Barron, Chief Executive of Plan International UK said, ‘I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Chelsea FC and their supporters, who have shown enormous generosity.
The match was a phenomenal success and the money raised will make a crucial difference to the lives of some of the world’s poorest children.
‘Over the past three years we have seen the partnership achieve something remarkable; we are so thrilled to enter the next chapter of our partnership and achieve even more, using the power and popularity of football to transform lives.’
Away from Stamford Bridge the partnership was celebrated at Kingsmeadow as Chelsea Ladies saw off Yeovil 8-0 on the same evening.  The team warmed up in Plan t-shirts and once again proudly displayed the name of our charity partner on the back of their shirts during the game.

Transforming lives

Plan and Chelsea are using football to teach young people about equality, respect and tolerance around the world. The approach is proven to transform lives: girls stay in school longer and marry later, while boys learn to be respectful of their female peers.
Chelsea Foundation has lots planned with their partner over the remainder of season and they are excited to announce that you can register your interest to enter a team to play at Stamford Bridge on the May 23 when the Champions of Change Cup returns for a third year in succession.
