De Graafschap’s initiative for World Alzheimer Day
On last Monday, De Graafschap and Alzheimer Nederland Oost Gelderland performed the ‘kick-off of the week’ in which World Alzheimer Day is central. Wednesday 21 September is World Alzheimer’s Day, with this year’s theme ‘On the road together’, chosen by the volunteers of Alzheimer Nederland. On this day they ask for extra attention for dementia.
Alzheimer Nederland Oost Gelderland department, in collaboration with other organizations, organizes great activities throughout the week to enjoy together and to raise awareness on dementia. Monday 19 September was the kick-off of World Alzheimer’s Day in the stadion de Vijverberg in Doetinchem. The kick-off was performed by Gerrit Klein Hulze and Freek Jansen (Chairman Alzheimer Nederland Oost Gelderland).
Collecting football memories together
The elderly meet in the stadium where they reminisce about the club’s rich football past under the guidance of volunteers. For many participants, social interactions like this do not happen very often. The club is going into the region with old players for the first time this week to pick up football memories. They do this with old attributes that are typical of their club and have to do with football. Meeting and relaxation are central to all activities.
In the coming weeks the club will organise trips to Gendringen (Tuesday), Zutphen AZC (Wednesday) and Marienvelde BMV (Friday) alongside Veur Altied (programme)
