Dream wedding for Rangers fans at Ibrox Stadium

With the help of the Rangers Charity Foundation and its Dream Fund, Jeannie Millan and William Brand, two Rangers fans, who both have terminal illnesses, had their dream come true when the couple had a fairy-tale wedding ceremony at Ibrox Stadium.

Jeannie and William could not afford a wedding due to the cost of shipping over ground-breaking medicine from the US for William’s Motor Neurone Disease. Jeannie also suffers from heart failure as a result of having chemotherapy for leukemia and two of the couple’s three children also have a disability.

Jeannie contacted the Rangers Charity Foundation to ask for a donation to help pay for William’s medication and was given a signed ball, which was raffled off and raised £400. But as the Foundation found out more and so moved by the couple’s story, they decided to help fulfill Jeannie and William’s wish to be married at Ibrox.

The Rangers Charity Foundation arranged and took care of the expenses for the magical wedding for the couple and their family last Saturday, making their dream a reality. Using the Foundation’s Dream Fund, the intimate ceremony, buffet and evening reception for 50 guests were paid for. Frank Graham Photography, a local photography studio, also kindly donated all photography services free-of-charge.

Jeannie commented:

“It was fantastic. More than a dream come true. We couldn’t have asked for it to be any better. My heart failure means I can’t get stressed and a wedding is a stressful thing but the Foundation took all the pressure off. The whole day was just so magical and we could never have had that kind of day without the Foundation. We were able to have a first dance which was great. You’ve made a dying man’s wish come true. It’s given him a new lease of life and another reason to fight harder.”

The couple was shocked when they were contacted and told that their wedding would be paid for. Jeannie explained:

“We only asked for a bit of help because we’ve been through such hardship.

“Billy’s proposed three times but we couldn’t justify marriage when the money could go on the medicine.

“The Foundation went above and beyond. Never in a million years would we have been able to do that. The charity deserves so much credit.”

Jeannie and William’s wedding was powered by the new Rangers Charity Dream Fund, established at the start of the 2017/18 season to create special experiences for children and adults whose lives have been impacted through illness, injury, disability or a difficult or traumatic experience. Find more information on the Foundation’s Dream Fund here.
