Dutch EFDN members sent teams to disability football cup

Every first Wednesday of August is the day of the national disabled football tournament in the Netherlands. The tournament took place for the 26th time this year and again the Bongerd, home of amateur club BVV Barendrecht, was the place to be. EFDN member clubs PSV Eindhoven, Vitesse Arnhem, NEC Nijmegen, AFC Ajax, Feyenoord Rotterdam, S.B.V. Excelsior and NAC Breda sent their disability teams to the tournament.

The annual tournament was organised by the professional football managers of the Netherlands (Coaches Betaald Voetbal) in cooperation with the KNVB, BVV Barendrecht and Dutch Disability Sports Fund and additional financial support of ING, PWC, PLUS and Voetbal International.

Dutch EFDN members PSV Eindhoven, Vitesse Arnhem, NEC Nijmegen, AFC Ajax, Feyenoord Rotterdam, S.B.V. Excelsior and NAC Breda, were amongst the 30 professional and grassroots football clubs, that provided the more than 400 participants with intellectual and physical limitations a special day in which sportsmanship, fun, respect and equality were of paramount importance.

The participants were coached by managers from professional football clubs and had the opportunity to meet amongst others former professional football players like Dirk Kuyt, Alfons Groenendijk, Ernest Faber, Adrie Koster, Sander Boschker and the Ajax women team.

The prize ceremony was the annual highlight of the tournament with Feyenoord coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst handed out all the awards.
