EFDN promotes Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyle

Today 24 September, the EFDN #Morethanfootball Action Weeks day dedicated to Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyle, coincides with the start of the #BeActive European Week of Sport. With obesity and lifestyle diseases plaguing more and more people across the world, there are increased calls for individuals to become physically active.

EFDN is participating in the #BeActive campaign which reaches its peak with the European Week of Sport running from September 23-30. This initiative aims to inspire all Europeans to be more active and take better care of their mental health. EFDN encourages its members and organisations that have registered for the campaign to showcase the projects they have, are or are planning to implement across their website, social media and where possible traditional media channels.

EFDN implements various programmes that support physical activity and healthy lifestyle including Scoring for Health, ActivU and Walking Football League. Others include Active Fans and Healthy Football League. Today, the Crossbar Challenge takes centre stage. The general idea is to show the faces behind the slogan “We are Morethanfootball” by encouraging staff members, project participants, players, coaches, club representatives and partners involved in your CSR programmes to take part in the various activities. The challenge is EFDN’s contribution to the European Week of Sport. Together we will promote physical activity and well-being.

EFDN Programmes

ActivU – The Activate Healthy Lifestyle through Counselling for You (ActivU)  project addresses the topic of encouraging participation in physical activity. It aims to to increase awareness and behavioural change in former active citizens with and without disabilities toward a healthy active lifestyle.

Active Fans – this programme was launcehd in January 2018 and aims to develop a new European standard and methodology that uses football as a tool to reach men and women from 35 years and older who would like to get physically active again, make lifestyle changes and improve their diets.

Healthy Football League – is an app-based competition encouraging football fans of all ages to make healthy lifestyle choices and compete against fans from other clubs. Together with their fans, the clubs strive to become the healthiest club in the city, country and Europe. Any fan with a phone using Android or iOS can register and start scoring points for their club.

Scoring for Health – aims to tackle the problem of childhood obesity which is still a critical issue throughout Europe today. It encourages children from 7 to 14 years and their parents to adopt a healthy lifestyle and make them aware of healthy nutrition.

Walking Football League – the goal of the unique competition is to spread the passion for Walking Football beyond borders. Walking football is simply football without running. Playing the beautiful game at a more feasible pace eliminates barriers and provide greater accessibility to the sport. The fast-growing sport is a good opportunity especially for elderly people that previously have been forced to stop playing due to age or injury.

Join the movement and share your workouts and health projects on your social media channels using #BeActive and #WeAreMorethanfootball.
