Everton Trio Surprise Kids at EITC Soccer School

Everton first-team stars Leighton Baines, Yerry Mina and Cenk Tosun surprised 80 children at an Everton in the Community Soccer School recently. They  spent the afternoon at Prescot Soccer Centre, taking part in different activities.

The Blues trio took part in five different skills challenges with the children and helping the budding footballers perfect their passing, shooting and penalty techniques before answering questions about their careers. The action-packed session, delivered in partnership with The James Greenop Foundation and Tornado, was brought to a close with group photographs and the three players signing autographs and posing for selfies with the children.

Throughout the school holidays, fully-qualified Everton in the Community coaches have been delivering Soccer Schools across the North West and overseas, helping more than 1,000 children to play the Everton way. “It’s been really enjoyable to spend the afternoon with these children and pass on some of our own tips and advice to help them develop their footballing techniques,” said Baines.  They were all playing with big smiles on their faces, which is the most important thing when playing football. I’m glad we could play a small part in helping make those smiles even bigger.”Everton in the Community’s Soccer Schools coordinator Sean Robertson added: “It was great to have the first-team players come down and experience the work that we do.

“The children were all shocked and excited when they turned up and it gave them the opportunity to showcase all the skills that they had learned with our coaches over the two days. “We have had an extremely busy summer delivering camps throughout Merseyside, North Wales and various locations around the world so this was a perfect way to end our summer programme.”

The James Greenop Foundation was set up in memory of the young Evertonian after he tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident in 2013. The Foundation works closely with Everton in the Community all year round and offers young children from Knowsley and Liverpool the opportunity to be part of community projects that help engage, educate and enhance skills and offer amazing opportunities, all while helping build local communities.
