First CSR and STEM partnership to start in Ireland

EFDN Partner Sphero Sports and EFDN members Football Association of Ireland and Shamrock Rovers FC organise, together with Unite the Union, Irelands first CSR and STEM partnership on Tuesday, 14th of September in Dublin. The event will be hosted in Tallaght Stadium of Shamrock Rovers FC.

This innovative CSR partnership will support young people from Tallaght & Clondalkin and increase their confidence with modern technology, by developing critical 21st-century STEM skills for the future tech economy via the inspiration of football, coding, robotics and play! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – is the field that helps children learn how to program, make codes, and understand technological devices.

EFDN and partner Sphero have implemented a forward-thinking STEM Network and a new programme to promote this field of study throughout the European football community. The EFDN STEM Network aims to engage EFDN member clubs, leagues and FAs who are keen to start their own journey of STEM Education for their club and community and want to be part of an alliance that will drive change and impact across Europe. The EFDN STEM Football & Education Programme is a pan-European project selected for financial support from UEFA Foundation for Children aiming to promote STEM Education amongst European youth. STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – is the field that helps children learn how to program, make codes, and understand technological devices. With the support of project partner Sphero and their supplemental resources, EFDN plans to deliver STEM Education programmes across Europe using the power of football to keep children engaged and committed to learning.

Shamrock Rovers Football Club is an Irish football club based in Tallaght, South Dublin. They take great pride in ensuring that there are opportunities across the community to get involved with Shamrock Rovers in as many ways as possible. The main goal when setting up their community program is to be a more visible presence in their community and surrounding locations. Shamrock Rovers identified three areas in which they could put their resources to increase the presence and make an impact in the community; schools, community clubs and local events.
