When football offers fun and love to refugees thanks to AEK

A friendly and warm game was successfully held on Monday afternoon at Spata, the training facility of AEK Athens, which demonstrated the power of sport and football. “We saw children happy and we know that only sport can offer this joy. We thank AEK for the opportunity they gave us and for their assistance to help refugee’s children, who enjoyed the game so much, “said Pyrros Dimas.  In cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages Greece and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, a mixed group from AEK Academies faced the National Football Team Refugees.

 

The solidarity struggle is part of the AEK actions, offering of AEK refugees and then donated sports equipment to the National Refugee team. “AEK is from a group of refugees and must face its history to participate in all efforts to strengthen and support these children, who have been through so much suffering,” said executive director of the AEK, Dusan Bajevic. The event was organized with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.  Mr. Igkor Ciobanu, head of the Office of Attica UNHCR United Nations, was present at Spata. “The friendship and football can heal the trauma of refugees who are forced to leave their homeland,” he said.

 
SOS Children’s Villages was represented by its general manager, Mr. George Protopapas: “It is very nice to see how much football can bring joy to these children,” he said. The very nice friendly game ended 3-2 in favor of AEK team, without of course the slightest interest in the final result. After the friendly game, football players of both teams had lunch together in the hall of the training center.

 

Children of the Refugees National Team kept the yellow jersey with them, and also a ball with signatures of players from the first team, commemorative jerseys and footballs certainly to be able to deal with their favorite sport everyday.  AEK FC thanked the companies and Prince Oliver stores for their generous support to the organizational needs of Monday’s friendly game.
