Fundación Real Sporting – Marea Rojiblanca Hosts ‘Football and Oncohaematology’ Day

The Real Sporting Foundation – Marea Rojiblanca organised the ‘Football and Oncohaematology’ event at La Antigua Rula in Gijón, as part of the ‘Horizontes Sostenibles’ series. The initiative highlighted the role of sport in improving the physical and psychosocial wellbeing of oncohaematological patients and their caregivers.

Healthcare professionals and adaptive sports coaches discussed how football can support vulnerable groups, showcasing the Foundation’s commitment to inclusion. Dr. Esther González, Head of Oncohaematology at Cabueñes Hospital, and biologist David Carballo opened with an overview of oncohaematological diseases, highlighting the benefits of sport for patients’ quality of life.

Coaches from programmes like DeportivaMente, Fútbol Sin Límites, and Fútbol Andarín shared their insights, with former Sporting player José Antonio Redondo emphasising the joy of seeing his players’ smiles. Players from Fútbol Andarín also shared inspiring stories about overcoming challenges through football.

This event reaffirms the Foundation’s dedication to social inclusion and the value of sport as a source of hope and resilience for those facing difficult circumstances.
