GRASSROOTS CLUBS JOIN RANGERS FC IN SHOWING RACISM THE RED CARD
Rangers FC Charity Foundation is joined by grassroots clubs in the Glasgow area in taking a stand against racism. During their recent Europa League fixture, Rangers and Benfica had a joint message for football fans all over Europe, Show Racism the Red Card! Both Rangers FC Charity Foundation and Fundação Benfica are partners in the Show Racism the Red Card Europe programme. One of the programme’s outputs includes awareness campaigns in grassroots clubs. Rangers’ call for grassroots clubs to join them in saying NO to racism has been heard by many. Participants have the chance to win great prizes.
Grassroots clubs that are participating have the chance to win prizes such as a signed Rangers shirt, a Stadium print, a coaching session with a Rangers Development coach and the chance for the whole team to enjoy a tour of Ibrox Stadium! Due to all the great pictures Rangers FC Charity Foundation have received so far, they have extended the deadline for clubs sending in their pictures until the 20th of December! Reaching grassroots players and coaches is an important part of our campaign. It is at the crossroad of the Red Card campaign and the educational programme. By holding the Red Cards, grassroots players and coaches are involved in the campaign in the most direct way. They are able to be actors of the campaign rather than just spectators.
This year, the sports world is seeing a movement with clubs, players and leagues taking an active and public stand against racism. EFDN supports and encourages such initiatives because we believe that football is one of the most powerful social actors in our European societies. By reaching as many grassroots players and coaches as possible, the Show Racism the Red Card Europe programme has the opportunity to keep the momentum of the anti-racism movement going.
