John Lewis Donation Boosts EitC Employability scheme

Leading department store John Lewis has joined forces with Everton in the Community to ensure participants in the Everton 4 Employment programme are fully prepared for the workplace. John Lewis in Liverpool ONE has donated work attire uniforms to EitC’s employability programme to help boost participants’ confidence for interviews.

For the past three months, John Lewis Liverpool have been running a uniform amnesty amongst its workforce, asking partners to donate any of their unwanted and unworn quality business dress. These items have now been donated to EitC. The John Lewis Partnership runs a charitable giving scheme called ‘Community Matters’. The initiative favours charities in which partners are personally involved, as well as giving donations to smaller, local concerns, where they can make a significant difference to local communities. Areas of focus include care for the sick and the disabled; youth and children; care and housing for the elderly; medical research; and welfare and counselling services. Working with Everton in the Community, John Lewis Liverpool has been able to support both education and employability in the local area.

Giving young people a better chance

Katie Green, PR/marketing coordinator and community liaison coordinator for Liverpool John Lewis said: “We are thrilled to be able to help and support young people into the workplace. I am so pleased to see the partners at John Lewis Liverpool get behind this initiative and donate quality work attire. It’s great to be able to provide an EitC and John Lewis wardrobe to give young people a better chance to enter the working environment.

“In addition, we are pleased to be able to hand EitC a cheque for £750, this is a result of our customers choosing them as their charity of choice. We look forward to working with this great charity on various projects going forward.”

Boost of confidence

EitC employment and enterprise manager John McDonald added: “We are grateful to John Lewis Liverpool and their team for generously donating clothes to provide our participants with quality interview outfits. Many of the young people we work with are unable to afford work attire and will help boost their confidence as they prepare to enter the world of work.”
