Maximilian Arnold Wolves Camp brings smiles to faces

Children suffering with cancer enjoyed a great few days under the patronage of the VfL Wolfsburg star.

Exercising more and taking part in sport can have benefits during pauses in cancer treatment or follow-up care. That’s why the José Carreras Leukaemia Foundation and VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold have set up the Maximilian Arnold Wolves Camp, whereby children suffering from cancer can spend fun-filled days at the recreational facility Haus am Bernsteinsee as well as the Volkswagen Arena.

Fully kitted out

Nine children each with a companion stayed at Haus am Bernsteinsee from Thursday to Sunday. Before the activities kicked off, Arnold opened a new building at the site and spent time with the young participants, signing autographs and answering questions. The children, who came from six different federal states also received a goody bag packed with training kit, football socks and shirts.

Bundesliga matchday experience

On Friday, the first full day of the camp, the kids were treated to the attractions of Haus am Bernsteinsee, including the football pitch which Arnold himself helped to build on the ‘Moving Together’ day. Then on Saturday, the focus was on the Bundesliga clash between Vfl Wolfsburg and Hannover 96. Following a special tour of the Volkswagen Arena and a visit to the VfL-FußballWelt, the camp participants witnessed Wolfsburg’s 3-1 win over their local rivals. They headed home on Sunday having collected their medals with memories of great experiences as well as a lot of exercise.
