Social Responsibility Right at the heart of the activities

Motherwell F.C. takes their Community and Social Responsibility very seriously. In order to have a positive impact, their Community Trust delivers a wide range of community-facing sport, recreation, social and community development activities on behalf of Motherwell Football Club.

The aim of the Trust is to use the power of football and the brand name of Motherwell Football Club to motivate and inspire people and communities to change their lives for the better.

The Trust operates across Lanarkshire and works with people and communities of all ages living within areas of multiple deprivation or those affected by issues such as poor physical and mental health, unemployment, poor attainment, low engagement with physical activity and community safety.

The Trust is strongly focused on working in equal partnership with a range of agencies across the region and country.

Jointly, the Community Trust delivers Social Programmes as: Memory Well, Football Fan in Training, Greener Well, Memory Well, Mini Steelkids and the Employability Programmes.

Social and community development programmes of Motherwell FC:

The Memory Well Programme provide weekly reminiscence therapy sessions to 400 dementia sufferers. The project develops memory books of pictures for participants in the project and delivers dementia awareness sessions in local schools. The sessions cover the core themes of film and TV, sport, art, music, as well as other themes to ensure that the project delivers activities of interest to the participants.

The Greener Well Programme aims at reducing the impact and costs of energy, clothing and travel associated with sporting activities and raising the awareness of carbon emission and climate change.

The 12-week Football Fans in Training Programme is developed for man or women aged 35-65 years old who want to lose weight, have a healthier lifestyle and ultimately be fitter.

The Mini Steelkids Programme of Motherwell FC is the first stage on the player pathway and is aimed at boys and girls between 3 and 5 years old. The aim is to give children a good physical and social foundation to start both football and general sports skill training.

Through the Employability Programme and in the framework of the Community Jobs Scotland (CJS) programme, Motherwell Community Trust aimes at supporting unemployed and vulnerable young people aged 16-29 into paid job training opportunities through the Third Sector.

Additionally, the Community Trust aims at:

  • increased participation in sport and in particular football
  • improved mental and physical wellbeing
  • increased participation in lifelong learning
  • improved community development
  • increased social and physical regeneration
  • increased participation in arts, culture and heritage

We are looking forward to a successful cooperation with the Scottish club.
