Naoberschap Inside Kicks Off

On Monday the 8th of April FC Emmen‘s unique Naoberschap Inside social project started at penitentiary Veenhuizen. FC Emmen is the first professional football organisation in the Netherlands to start a project in which prisoners are offered football training in prison. The goal is not to scout these detainees for the first team of FC Emmen, but to work on the eleven core values of FC Emmen and their Naoberschap United foundation. When they succeed, a detainee has the chance of getting a job after their detention via the network of sponsors and business clubs of FC Emmen.

Detainees that successfully complete the project will receive a certificate after eight weeks. This certificate is proof that the participant has successfully worked on the eleven core values of Naoberschap Inside. These core values being:

  1. Respect
  2. Example
  3. Proactive
  4. Professional
  5. Collaboration
  6. Trust
  7. Discipline
  8. Ambitious
  9. Initiative
  10. Creative
  11. Fun.

At the end of the process, the detainees also play a game of football against a team from the business club of FC Emmen.

The training sessions are not just about the football aspect, the process also includes individual and group discussions to talk about various aspects of detention and life after prison. There is also an intake interview with potential employers. The football training is given by two trainers from Naoberschap United, in collaboration with sports instructors from the prison in Veenhuizen.

The objective of Naoberschap Inside is to guide detainees who have successfully completed the program to a paid job via the FC Emmen network.
