Online Self-Assessment Tool on Child Protection policies in sports

The ACTIVE team is happy to announce that the new online self-assessment tool is now available for all sports clubs in Europe. The tool is targeting sports clubs and organisations, that work with children, and help them evaluate their child protection policies, ethic guidelines and codes of conduct, as well as their competences in keeping children and young people safe in sport.

This tool helps sports clubs comply with the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in the practical context of their activities. It provides guidance on how the clubs/organisations should assess and reflect on their current practices and mechanisms, with a view to improve and/or develop an efficient child safeguarding policy and therefore reap benefits to all parties involved (children and their families as well as sports professionals, managers and other relevant persons).

Specifically, the online self-assessment tool has been developed in the context of the ACTIVE project after extensive research in four EU member states: Greece, Cyprus, Italy, and Portugal. Through consultation with 243 sport club professionals, coaches, young athletes and parent/carers of young athletes.

If you work in sports clubs, follow the link https://platform.activeproject.eu/en/, answer the questions and you will get an evaluation feedback form that will help you enhance the child protection policy at your club.

Children must be protected against any form of “violence” or abuse that may be caused in the sports activities and they have the right to practice sports activities in a safe environment.

We should join our forces to promote a safer sports environment for all children!

A few words about ACTIVE

ACTIVE – funded by the Rights Equality and Citizenship Programme – aims at establishing safer environments for children by developing an online self-assessment tool, allowing sports and leisure clubs to identify and address gaps in terms of implementation of Child Protection Polices in their premises. The project is being implemented in Greece by KMOP, in Italy by CESIE, in Cyprus by CARDET, in Portugal by CESIS and in Scotland by Children 1st.
