PAOK celebrated World Book Day

On the occasion of World Book Day, PAOK Action once more displayed its cultural side, contributing to the two local libraries of Ano & Kato Toumpa.

PAOK Action is making two very important donations, which aim to provide a helping hand in the efforts of all the everyday people of «our neighborhood» to expand their spiritual horizons, building the solid foundations of a better tomorrow.

On the occasion of the celebration of World Book Day on April 23, PAOK Action provided the Municipal Libraries of Ano Toumpa & Kato Toumpa with computers as well as additional consumables, necessary for the functions and programmes of the libraries.

The library of Ano Toumpa was visited by the Under-19 players Vassilis Grosdis and Aventis Aventisian, while the library at Kato Toumpa was visited by senior players Lefteris Lyratzis and George Koutsias, accompanied by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Vangelis Chrysochou.

This action was the trigger of a new and very important collaboration between PAOK Action and the Deputy Mayor of Culture & Tourism of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. The deputy mayor, Mrs. Maria Karagianni, spoke about this for the PAOK TV cameras.

The aim of this intiative, carried out in the context of the strategy of strengthening society as a whole – and especially children and culture, is to highlight the value of lifelong personal education and development achieved through reading and contact with history, literature, and the wider fantasy world that a good book evokes.

At the same time, our ultimate goal is no other than highlighting the role of the «neighborhood», and the crucial importance it plays at the local cultural and social level, through the operation of libraries, sports activities or other social events that make up its core.

Finally, it is worth noting that April 23 has been established by UNESCO as World Book Day, thus honoring one of the most distinctive spiritual abilities that man has developed as a supreme means of communication and dissemination of culture. This date was chosen by UNESCO in honor of the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes and the English playwright William Shakespeare, who died on the same day in 1616.
