POSITIVE GOALS, Nicola’s Story

Prior to engaging with Morton in the Community’s Positive Goals employability programme Nicola was unemployed for 5 years and lacked any self-belief or confidence in being able to find work. Nicola had participated in other employability courses and felt that she was going around in circles and struggled to motivate herself. Nicola felt as if she could not tell anyone that she was unemployed.
Nicola first heard about Positive Goals through her Work Coach at DWP Job Centre Plus and felt that this could be great opportunity to get her life back on track. Nicola spent 6 weeks at Cappielow and grew in confidence throughout, gaining qualifications in IT, First Aid and Customer Service. Nicola said “I met a great bunch of people and the support for one another was great.”
We worked with Nicola and identified what major barriers were preventing her from moving into work and created an action plan to help Nicola overcome these. She developed a determination to find employment with the motivation being to “create a better life for her and her young daughter”.
Very quickly Nicola had a firm sense of direction and wanted to pursue a career in Administration. We supported Nicola with an application to Synergy Civil Engineering Limited and the rest is history. Nicola states “Positive Goals changed my life, if offered to do Positive Goals you should do it, the support is incredible.”
Nicola is enjoying her role as Administration Assistant where she has seen change in herself with a desire to do well and most of all Nicola feels she is making her young daughter – Orlagh, proud of her.
Nicola is one of many participants to find work having engaged in Positive Goals, we have supported 55% of our participants into work within 13 weeks of completing Positive Goals. Figures we are hugely proud of. All at Morton in the Community wish Nicola and all our previous participants well in their future endeavours.
We are currently recruiting participants to our upcoming programmes if interested please email admin@mortoncommunity.net.
