Real Betis and Manchester United Promote Sustainability in Football

Manchester United, Real Betis and Forever Green have joined forces this week to promote sustainability in football ahead of the Europa League round of 16 first leg match between the teams at Old Trafford.

Two football legends, United’s Wes Brown and Rafael Gordillo along with representatives from both clubs came to the City of Trees, located in Manchester, to plant trees to cheer on fans and the football industry in In general, to be aware of their impact on the environment.

Among other actions, Real Betis fans who have traveled to Manchester will receive biodegradable bags so that they can collect the waste they generate in the spaces surrounding the city center and the stadium during their visit. The Verdiblanco club encourage United supporters to do the same when they come to Seville for the second leg.

I encourage fans to think about more sustainable ways to follow football and when traveling to European competitions it is It’s important that they show respect to the opposing fans, to their city, to their stadium and to their culture.”

For his part, the president of the Real Betis Foundation, Rafael Gordillo, stated that it is an honor for the Verdiblanco club to join forces with Manchester United. “It is very important that we take advantage of our European appointments to continue expanding Forever Green throughout the world and also for convey to our fans that we must set an example and leave every corner we visit free of waste during our visits to Europe”. 

Forever Green is the environmental sustainability platform of Real Betis that joins efforts between football clubs, companies and entities from other sectors to use the loudspeaker that football represents to save the planet from the effects of climate change. Thanks to Forever Green, Real Betis is the most sustainable football club in LaLiga and the second in Europe, according to a recent study carried out by Brand Finance.  

Real Betis in these more than two years of Forever Green’s life has already added more than 100 actions, reached 75 countries, added to 60 organizations, companies and clubs and reached 195 media outlets around the world. In addition, thanks to all the work carried out, the club has managed to save 3,500 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to 21,500 trees planted.  

During their participation in the last two seasons in the UEFA Europa League, Real Betis takes the opportunity to join the teams they face to fight together against climate change.
