Countdown Is On To “Run For The 96” 3rd edition

Everton star Tom Davies has backed this year’s Run For The 96, taking place in Stanley Park next month.

The Liverpool-born midfielder is encouraging Evertonians to put on their trainers and take part in the special 5K fun run which is returning for a third consecutive year on Sunday 14 May.

Everton in the Community is once again an official charity partner for the event that was created in 2015 by Dom Williams to celebrate the lives of the 96 Liverpool fans, who lost their lives in the Hillsborough tragedy on 15 April 1989 while supporting the team they loved.

The run is also a day to remember the families of the 96 and the survivors, who have since tirelessly fought for justice with dignity.

Last year the event raised £11,252.78, which was split equally between Everton in the Community and the Liverpool FC Foundation.

Davies was on-hand at USM Finch Farm recently to be officially presented with the funds by Steve Kelly, whose brother Mike lost his life at Hillsborough, and BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell, who organises the Run For The 96.

Davies said: “It’s great to see the Run For The 96 back for a third year and to see the two clubs and both sets of fans come together for such an important cause. Good luck to all of the runners who take part on the day – it will be great to see as many people from the city taking part as possible.”

A third beneficiary is also joining the two football club charities this year to further strengthen the community aspect. Stanley Park Liverpool CIC is an organisation working to develop links between the park and the local community.

If you would like to enter to run the race, log on to www.btrliverpool.com/run-for-the-96-enter. Alternatively, you can call into BTR at 82 Market Street, Hoylake. All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt to wear for the run, a medal and a goody bag.*

*The Run For The 96 5K and one-mile entry fees pay to stage and deliver all aspects of the event.
