Schalke04 helps to get moving again!

Bodo Weinschroeder and Wolfgang Reck answered the question “Why do you begin with football training?” with just one gesture: they point to their tummy. The two Royal Blues, just like the 56-year-old Olaf Delbeck, came back to the sport because of Schalke Hilft!

The three gentlemen started in the Football Fans in Training project (FFIT), which the club is implementing together with the German Cancer Aid Foundation. “Everything is so much easier once you start moving again and therefore we also started playing walking football every week”. The 3 participants are very proud of the progress they have made so far.

“I only used to look at the ball, but today I can get it too,” says the 64-year-old Weinschroeder, participant of the second round of Football Fans in Training (FFIT). He has slimmed down about 9 kilos through the project. Immediately after the start he also started in the walking football programme of Schalke04. Every Wednesday morning he trains together with other senior Schalke fans.

“We are now like a family and everyone is proud to be allowed to play at the tournaments with the jersey of FC Schalke 04,” explains Olaf Delbeck. For him, walking football is just the right sport. Because it is not allowed to run, he can keep up with the other players despite his health issues and he can still play a game on the pitch.

The 59-year-old Wolfgang Reckhe who had a sedentary lifestyle is putting on his football boots every Monday to join the Monday evening Walking Football group and is learning everything about healthy nutrition and a better lifestyle at the FFIT sessions on Wednesdays. With noticeable changes: “I just feel fitter – I think that’s great!”
