Shakhtar held a training session for girls with mental disorders

Our member Shakhtar held a football training session for girls with mental disorders as part of the Life Skills programme. 13 girls with mental disorders involved in the Come On, Let’s Play! project got the opportunity to take part in the Life Skills programme aided by Special Olympics and UNFPA Ukraine.

The pilot project lasted from August 30 to September 5 at the Artek ICC (Pushcha-Vodytsia). For seven days under the supervision of psychologists and volunteers from the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine and the Special Olympics, the participants performed various creative tasks, communicated with each other and participated in football training. All sessions were aimed at improving the mental development of the girls with disabilities.

Nikita Filippov, Shakhtar Social project manager:

“The children learned some socializing skills and played football. The programme is aimed at improving the girls’ interaction, their integration into society, the development of physical and mental abilities.”

We want to point out that the volunteers in the inclusive training were participants in the Welcome through Football programme which is supported by the UEFA Foundation for Children and an EFDN initiative.

The Come On, Let’s Play! project for girls with disabilities is being implemented in partnership with UNFPA Ukraine and Special Olympics since 2019. It involves 80 participants from four Ukrainian cities.
