EFDN member, Shakhtar Donetsk, is raring to restart its Welcome through Football sessions. In preparation, the Ukrainian club and its foundation are inviting displaced children, immigrants and refugees to the upcoming session beginning on 10 October at the club’s training complex.

Welcome Through Football is a programme that uses a methodology that fosters the social inclusion and employability of young newly arrived immigrants and refugees. Its activities promote the quality of youth work, intercultural dialogue and strengthen knowledge and acceptance of diversity in society. The project also assists football coaches and youth workers in the development and sharing of effective methods in reaching out to marginalised target groups, in preventing racism and intolerance.

Shakhtar Social, is among six others club foundations Apollon Limassol, Benfica, Everton, FC Emmen, Werder Bremen and Sheffield United that are implementing the EFDN programme. Displaced children, immigrants and refugees aged between 11 and 13 in the vicinity of Shakhtar are invited to join these free football training sessions conducted by professionals and club staff. The objective will be to help the children  who found themselves in difficult life circumstances to settle at a new place using the language of football. The children will also meet Shakhtar players, attend the Miners’ home games and have the option to speak to a psychologist if needed.

The sessions will be held twice a week in Kyiv and those willing t join in are invited to register here.
