Special Feyenoord corner opened at Children’s Hospital

A Feyenoord corner opened in the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital in Rotterdam. The spot is meant to give all children in the hospital the real Feyenoord feeling during their stay. “From now on, we will be with the children every day,” said Ton Strooband, Manager of Social Affairs at Feyenoord.

Red and white on the packed stands, Feyenoord shirts, the helicopter circling above Feyenoord‘s stadium De Kuip and Justin Bijlow and Marcos Senesi on the wall. The brand new Feyenoord corner in the Erasmus MC-Sophia Children’s Hospital represents Feyenoord in every way. From now on, children can take pictures here and feel like they are at De Kuip again for a day.

Window Visit

To make sure everything went as safely as possible, a large part of the opening took place outside. In the gardens of the hospital, the mascots Coentje and Sophietje climbed on a platform to greet all children. Meanwhile, the children were all treated with some sweets and received a gift. In addition, the children were surprised with a video message from Bryan Linssen. The Feyenoord winger wished the children a lot of strength on behalf of the whole team and hoped to see many pictures of the Feyenoord corner on social media.

The official opening of the Feyenoord corner was done by Annemiek Rutters, Director of Sophia Children’s Hospital and Ton Strooband, Manager Social Affairs at Feyenoord. The latter explained that the creation of this special Feyenoord corner was a long-cherished dream of Feyenoord: “From now on we’ll be present in the hospital and with the children every day. It’s also nice that we were able to realise this with the help of our supporters. Their donations have made this possible.”

Captain of the children

The first visitors came soon after the opening. IC doctor and Feyenoord fan Diederik Gommers came to take a look together with Milan, who is also a big Feyenoord fan. Milan was given a captain’s armband and was appointed captain of all children in the hospital. It is now up to him to show the other children the Feyenoord corner.

Feyenoord and Sophia Children’s Hospital have been working together for almost 20 years. Since 2003, the Rotterdam football club has been committed to strengthening the hearts of patients in the hospital and special events are held to raise money for medical research. It is Feyenoord’s intention to extend the collaboration with Sophia Children’s Hospital in the near future.
