St. Pulli: St. Pauli’s sweater to improve homeless people’s lives

To support homeless people, our member FC St. Pauli launched the “St. Pulli” campaign with 1,000 limited edition hoodies. For every copy sold, FC St. Pauli and their partner ‘Die Techniker’ will donate a warm winter jacket to homeless people in Hamburg.

If fans buy an exclusive “St. Pulli”, they will get lucky twice. On the one hand, because the piece costs just 10 euros and it still meets the highest social and ecological standards with GOTS certification. On the other hand, because with every purchase winter jacket will be donated to the people on the street. This way, supporters can show solidarity with the people on the street.

“As if life on the street wasn’t already dangerous enough to your health, it’s certainly even harder in the winter. With a little warmth and dryness, we want to help and make the situation a little more bearable,” says Martin Drust, Head of Marketing at FC St. Pauli. The lined winter jacket with a high collar is primarily intended to protect against the cold and wet. The cooperation partner will distribute the jackets to homeless people in Hamburg at the end of the campaign. For Ewald Lienen, the club’s values ambassador and #Weltverbesserer, it’s a question of solidarity: “As we did with other donation campaigns, we’re sending a clear and easy-to-achieve help signal with our partner Techniker Krankenkasse.” Andreas Bündert, head of marketing at Techniker Krankenkasse, adds: “Anyone who, like us, always focuses on health cannot close their eyes to social problems.”

The club from Hamburg already called for donations for the accommodation and care of homeless people in hotels in November, in order to be able to help at least some people warm and safe through the winter. By the first week of December, they had already received donations amounting to 40,000 euros and are thus able to offer eight homeless people a warm and safe hotel accommodation from mid-December until the end of April. The hotel project is run by Alimaus and Hinz&Kunzt together with Diakonie and Caritas. Thanks to these institutions, with whom the club have been working closely for years in the field of homeless aid, not only accommodation and meals, but also the professional care of the people are ensured. Furthermore, the club and the local government agreed on setting up containers with toilets and showers next to the stadium, that can be used by people free of charge.
