Swedish Professional Football Leagues launch project with the National Employment Service

Besides publishing a video and a report on the positive impact of Swedish football in the community, the Swedish Professional Leagues (Svensk Elitfotboll) also announced the launch of a new employment project.

Swedish football fans know well that Allsvenskan and Superettan clubs are deeply involved in their community, but the impact of their community work might be unknown to the majority. For this reason, the Swedish Professional Football Leagues have published a video collecting all the best practices carried out by its clubs.

“Many people think that we “only” play football, but what the clubs do, has an impact. By making visible and comprehensible what we do, we also want to inspire others to get involved through collaborations,” said Karin Heri, National Employment Coordinator at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.

Moreover, the organisation has also announced that from the second half of 2020 they will run a project together with the Swedish Public Employment Service. This programme will not only broaden the market for social entrepreneurship in Sweden, but it will also bring more cross-sectoral collaborations between clubs, their sponsors and the Swedish Public Employment Service and the municipality.

Besides the video, the Svensk Elitfotboll has also recently published a report curated by Sweden’s leading Economist, Ingvar Nilsson. “A Football Pitch in the Middle of the Village” investigates the involvement of Swedish football in social responsibility and how this sport can create a sense of community.

“What football does in the form of community involvement is extremely extensive and it has an enormous potential to become even greater. Football is an important part of community building in vulnerable areas,” said Nilsson about his research.
