Thinking Football Film Festival of Athletic Club Foundation
Athletic Club Foundation was founded in 2002 with the mission to return to society part of what society gives to Athletic Club. With the approach of integrating social, social-sporting and socio-cultural scopes into their agenda in order to contribute society, the Athletic Club Foundation is unique in its kind.
All Foundation activities use football and/or Athletic Club’s social, historical and cultural dimension as tools to help improve the quality of life of the people for whom they are intended.
The work of the Athletic Club Foundation does not fall within the rationale of economic profitability, but that it is geared towards social and cultural prosperity.
A Foundation emphasising culture and history:
Within the cultural spectrum, the foundation delivers a series of activities in the cultural sphere. These seek to build bridges between culture and football with the objective that out of this relationship both parts mutually expand, as well as cultivate the critical reflection around football understood as a social phenomenon. In this sense, the Foundation programmes activities in areas akin to Thought, Literature, the cinema, Basque culture, Art, Photography, Media and, of course, Euskera.
Thinking Football Film Festival
As one of the cultural activities, the Athletic Club Foundation organises the “Thinking Football Film Festival” It is a yearly festival that presents in the Sala BBK of Bilbao between twelve and twenty films in which, through football, human and social stories are told. On the whole, the Thinking Football Film Festival program aims to help raise the key to understanding the social and global phenomenon that football has become in the last century.
The 2018 edition will be the sixth, and will take place between March 5 and 20, in a format of sessions on Monday and Tuesday.
Attendance to all sessions is free until full capacity is reached and after each of them a small debate about the film is made, with the presence of the director or one of the protagonists of the same. The public can value the films, and at the end of the festival the Audience Award of Thinking Football Film Festival is announced.
