Tottenham Hotspur provide employment opportunities to armed forces veterans
Tottenham Hotspur hosted a construction Jobs Fair in partnership with BuildForce at White Hart Lane, to help veterans of the Armed Forces into employment.
The event saw employers, including those involved in building the Club’s new 61,000-seater stadium, match veterans with live jobs.
Opportunities were also promoted within Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Construction Academy, which offers two weeks of training on the site of the stadium development project.
Recent research carried out by the Royal British Legion estimates that 120,000 veterans of working age in the UK are unemployed and looking for a job – about 11 per cent – amounting to more than twice the unemployment rate for the wider population.
BuildForce is an alliance of employers, industry bodies and service charities, supported by the government, which helps service leavers pursue careers in construction.
“The Club’s stadium development project is creating thousands of new jobs”
The event at the Lane kicks off a national campaign for BuildForce, who have recruited several other partner organisations to help veterans into the construction industry around the country.
An estimated 3,000 construction jobs are expected to have been delivered by the time Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium opens.
Daniel Levy, Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “We are delighted to partner with BuildForce to host this unique event – another example of our ongoing work to support Armed Forces veterans into employment. The Club’s stadium development project is creating thousands of new jobs, both in construction and many other sectors, and this represents a fantastic opportunity for us to address these unemployment statistics amongst service leavers.”
Mike Davis-Marks, BuildForce’s Project Director, said: “A lot of talented and dedicated people leave the Forces every year seeking new horizons and I am delighted that Tottenham Hotspur is supporting this initiative to help create construction opportunities in North London.”
