The UN- Flüchtlingshilfswerk appreciates Werder’s & Bayer Leverkusens Integration work

Bayer Leverkusen & Werder Bremen are already since almost 10 years part of the Football Club Social Alliance (FCSA), which is based in Basel, Switzerland. The organisation, and therefore SV Werder Bremen & Bayer Leverkusen, have the aim of improving the lives of girls, boys and young adults coming from crisis areas.

Over the years, in the course of the partnership, both clubs have already shown their commitment in countries as Uganda, Palestine and Kosovo.

Recently, the work of the Football Clubs Social Alliance has been recognised by the UN- Fluechtlingshilfswerk and an official partnership between both organisations was registered.

In the partnership’s letter of intent both parties declare that they will jointly aim at enhancing the integration of refugees and internally displaced people by working towards providing possibilities for education and sports, including education training possibilities in the field of sport.

Projects in Jordan & Eastern Ukraine

In this regard, in the past 12 months the FCSA, Werder Bremen & Bayer Leverkusen provided young people from Syria living in the refugee camp Azraq in Jordan and internally replaced people in Eastern Ukraine with training possibilities to become children football trainers.

The activities, which FCSA delivers are following the goal of bringing hope to those regions, where people are suffering from severe traumatic experiences. They are helping to establish structures and provide children with an environment in which they can play.

Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald from SV Werder Bremen states that ” It is the best solution for the refugee thematic to support the social circumstances in the countries of origin. It is important that we also contribute a small part, to improving the circumstances at the basis.”

Sustainable possibilities for development

Being member of the FCSA, both clubs will also in the future work towards providing sustainable possibilities for development in areas of crisis.

The position as Young Coach gives refugees and local women and men the possibility to become a positive role model acting under the mandate of the UNHCR.

Next to SV Werder Bremen and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, FC Basel, Queens Park Rangers F.C. and FK Austria Wien are members of the Football Club Social Alliance.
