NEC Doelbewust & EFDN walk the Nijmeegse Vierdaagse to raise money

From 18th until 21st of July, the Four Days Marches (Nijmeegse Vierdaagse) take place, the largest walking event world-wide.

The Four Days Marches are a walking achievement event for four consecutive days, in which annually tens of thousands walkers are participating. Participants walk 30, 40 or 50 kilometers and receive a medal (Vierdaagsekruis) on completion.

On those days, people from all over the world come to Nijmegen to walk in and around the city and its beautiful wooded surroundings. Thousands of spectators are cheering along the route every day. After four days of walking, a glorious entry along the Via Gladiola awaits the walkers, followed by the distribution of their well-deserved Four Days Medal.

This year, the Four Days March is carried out for the 101st time and within days, 50,403 people registered to participate. Since that number exceeds the registration limit of 47,000, a draw had to take place.

Walking around Nijmegen

The Four Days Marches have a different route each day; through the landscapes of Dutch provinces of Gelderland, Brabant and Limburg, through the city of Nijmegen and its outskirts. Every walking day revolves around a different town in the vicinity of Nijmegen. The first day is called the day of Elst, the second day the day of Wijchen, the third the day of Groesbeek and finally the fourth day – the day of Cuijk.

During the Four Days Marches the routes are signposted by means of coloured arrows. The colours of these arrows are equal to the colour of the wrist band. Participants, who walk the 50km follow the red arrows, participants on the 40km follow the yellow arrows, military participants follow the green arrows and participants on the 30km follow the blue arrows.

Foundation NEC Nijmegen Doelbewust walks the Vierdaagse to raise money

Football club NEC Nijmegen ’s foundation NEC Doelbewust is delivering a wide range of Community and Social Responsibility Programmes in and around Nijmegen, thereby having an impact on the life of many people.

Through the joint efforts of regional cooperation partners, engaged citizens and institutions from the fields of sport, health and well-being, the foundation is continuously expanding the number of programmes and thereby the number of people being reached.

To even increase the impact of the Foundation, this year, staff members of the NEC Foundation and participants of their community programmes, as members of the Walking Football team, are walking the 4 Days Marches in Nijmegen to raise money for the foundation.

Thus, the money contributes to supporting the fantastic work that is being done by the foundation. Would you like to support the foundation? Please visit the Crowdfunding website of NEC Doelbewust.

Also the European Football for Development Network has joined the great cause and is walking the 4 Days Marches to support two of its Network members.
