Werder Bremen is part of Sports for Future initiative

EFDN member Werder Bremen is part of the new Sports For Future initiative which was founded recently in Germany. Sports for Future wants to promote sustainability in and around German sport, climate protection, and democratic values.

In addition to SV Werder Bremen and the main initiator TSG Hoffenheim, clubs and associations such as VfL Osnabrück, Global United FC, Deutsche Sportjugend and successful athletes such as Olympic champion Fabian Hambüchen, Anni Friesinger and pole vaulter Jacqueline Otchere support the movement.

In line with the club’s values

“We want to give the future a voice. Werder Bremen has stood for social responsibility for years. Being a part of Sports For Future in these times is in line with our values and our self-image”, explained Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald, Managing Director and President of SV Werder Bremen. He added: “Only in an open and free society can we experience sport the way we love it”.

With the support of the clubs and athletes, the movement wants to take a stand and promote the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement. The aim is to ensure a future worth living for all social classes, age groups, and future generations. The alliance stands for a fair and respectful debate culture as well as for solidarity and a social team spirit. On this basis, Sport for Future has set itself the task of launching its own activities, promoting projects and increasing know-how.

A range of topics in social projects

Werder Bremen is one of the leading clubs in terms of corporate social responsibility in Germany’s national football league. Werder has its own department that organises all the social projects. Environmentalism, anti-discrimination, healthy diet, movement, and education are the main topics addressed in Werder’s programmes.
