‘Write it don’t say it’

FC Internazionale Milan sent out an invitation to fight racism today with its own weapon: the racist buu through their”Write it, don’t say it” campaign.  Players, influencers, opinion leaders, celebrities and fans are all demonstrating their support by doing their own ‘BUU’ slogan on social media giving a simple message, whether written on a hand or commented on a social media post.  This is with a view to changing the perception of the buu into a positive acronym – Brothers Universally United.

The campaign started with a video shared on Inter’s social media channels which included  President Steven Zhang, Vice-President Javier Zanetti, captain Mauro Icardi and other club legends explaining how they will transform the buu from being discriminatory to inclusive.

“It’s a changeover from negative to positive. This is what we want from the BUU campaign, write it, don’t say it,” said Steven Zhang, the club’s President. “The only way to involve everyone is to focus directly on the problem, setting ourselves out in a strong and direct manner. Our fans are special and they deserve a type of football that promotes positive and inclusive values. This campaign wants to be a solid tool against all forms of discrimination and one that strongly reaffirms the values that Inter have identified themselves with for almost 111 years.”

During tomorrow’s match between Inter and Sassuolo, which is the Clubs second match behind closed doors, the Stadio Meazza will put on a social display to reaffirm the Clubs fight against discrimination.

To further demonstrate their commitment to fighting all forms of discrimination and violence, the match will host over 10,000 children. This will include children from the Inter Football Schools network (Nerazzurri’s Youth Development Centre and the Inter Grassroots Programme in affiliation with the FIGC), the Centro Sportivo Italiano and two local schools from Milan.

Also at the match will be children from the ‘Io Tifo Positivo’ project who have been a partner of Inter Campus for some time, constantly reaffirming values such as mutual respect and tolerance. There will also be ‘Quarta categoria’ present, an organisation that both Inter and Sassuolo support in helping children with learning disabilities, Project ‘Rete’!, an FIGC initiative for their own Youth and Scholastic Sector aimed at promoting inclusion and social integration through football.
