Captains of Change

A Game for All is a Scottish FA project backed by European football’s governing body, in which grassroots clubs are supported by SFA Diversity & Inclusion Officers to better represent their local community’s demographics. With policies created and adjusted, following on from an educational cultural awareness workshop, a bespoke action plan is created for the club with an objective of proactively engaging with hard to reach groups who were found to have been isolated from the Scottish FA’s various playing and coaching pathways.

AFC Community Trust worked closely with local club Glentanar CFC over the past year to help deliver on their action plan. Glentanar now run a weekly free to play football participation centre for children in their community, supported by AFCCT coaches, which has bridged the gap between those either not playing or playing recreationally to playing for a grassroots club. As a result, the club have seen an increase in their membership, from players to coaches, with an increase in their levels of diversity and now hold a much more accurate reflection of their community. Moving forward, AFC Community Trust will continue to support local clubs through this project, ensuring that football truly is a game for all.
