KAA Gent Homeless Blue White
KAA Gent Homeless Blue White helps homeless people and other forms of assisted living, refugees and people in rehabilitation of drug and/or alcohol addiction to build a network of social relations, in an environment with attention to physical and mental health.
KAA Gent Homeless Blue White is all about the people who are involved. They meet weekly and work on and off the football pitch on social emancipation, respect, diversity and fair play. The project is the prototype of a community-based delivery programme: a project that is locally rooted, contributing to the local policy objectives and strengthening skills (personal skills , life skills) of the participants. The project is a bottom up program, build together with the participants. Within the project we examine how the players can develop themselves and add value to society by – at a later stage – cooperating as volunteers in projects and programs of KAA Gent ‘Football in the community’.
– 65 different participants/year
– 45 group moments/year
– 3.000 contact hours with participants/year
The key success factors of this community program are the two football teams within the project (male and female), the formation of a group of volunteers around the football teams and the multidisciplinary approach: sports and health, inclusion, activating and empowerment.
KAA Gent Homeless Blue White received the Community Trophy (2014) and the Fair Play Trophy (2015) of the Belgian Homeless Cup, was laureate of the Belgian Prize of the federal ministry of Interior Affairs (2015), winner of the City of Ghent Sport Award (2015) and nominated for thet ECA CSR Award (2016).
