Notts County Foundation – National Citizen Service

National Citizen Service is a flagship government initiative which offers a unique opportunity for 15-17 year olds to come together with other young people that they wouldn’t ordinarily have met in their day to day lives. Mixing cultures and social backgrounds, NCS will provide participants with an amazing springboard for their future by developing new skills and experiences.

NCS is a four-phase programme specifically designed to provide you with all sorts of new experiences. Whether you’re a daredevil or creative genius, talkative or more reserved, you’ll be surprised by how much you’re actually capable of, coming away with a host of new skills and bags of confidence. If you want to boost your UCAS statement or CV, meet incredible people, get your voice heard and have a lot of fun while you’re at it, then NCS is for you. All National Citizen Service programmes are made up for four phases. Here’s what you can expect when you sign up for one our programmes.

Phase 1 – Adventure
You’ll head out on an outbound residential, this will either be mid-week or a long weekend (this is dependent on which group /programme you are in). You will participate in a mixture of activities, such as rafting, abseiling, kayaking, bush craft, aeroball and night line. This phase of the programme enables you to bond with your team and develop your teamwork skills. Transport, accommodation and food is provided.

Phase 2 – Discovery
The skills phase gives you the opportunity to take part in a range of engaging workshops and activities, such as:

Life is Prison workshops
Confidence and mindfulness sessions
Team activity sessions with Notts County Foundation staff
Enterprise challenges – show your business skills!
Community Café

Phase 3 – Social Action
Your team will create and deliver your own community action project. This involves choosing an issue you really care about in your local area, such as homelessness, mental health, the local environment etc. You will support by fundraising, raising awareness of a cause or renovating a social space for those affected by the issue you have chosen. You can be as inventive or creative as you like, it’s YOUR project and a real opportunity to showcase your skills, as well as give something back to the community.

Phase 4 – Celebration!
The completion of NCS is marked with a graduation event, an opportunity to celebrate your achievements. All participants will receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister.
