#ADOGreen: A Healthy and Sustainable Step for ADO Den Haag

Last Friday marked a special day for ADO Den Haag, as the official launch of #ADOGreen took place in the Club Lounge of the Bingoal Stadion. This memorable event attracted approximately 60 guests, including club partners and new local and regional stakeholders joining the #ADOGreen Partner Club. The Municipality of The Hague was well represented, with officials such as Arjen Kapteijns and Hilbert Bredemeijer, underlining their engagement and support for this new initiative.

The evening began with an inspiring welcome from Marco Esser, Chairman of the ADO Den Haag in the Community Foundation and also the director of The Hague & Partners. He expressed his enthusiasm for the club’s new direction, transitioning from the brand ADO Den Haag in the Community to #ADOGreen.

Kees Brouwers, the Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) & Sustainability for the club, then took the floor and guided us through the history of the foundation, with a strong emphasis on the value of Professional Football for the community. He clarified what #ADOGreen entails and how it seamlessly fits within the broader framework of sustainability and Our Pride. “Pride” was the word of the evening, a sentiment shared by the new management, owners, the team, and all present. This pride extended to physiotherapist and trainer Naomi Hoogendam, who was leaving the CSR department of ADO Den Haag after four years of service.

To reinforce the message, two partners were invited to share their experiences. Wesley van Heugten from Mobiwerk and Van Heugten Tours, long-standing Transport partners of the club, discussed the CSR policy of the regional coach company. Martin Bolderman from Sportverlichting.com shared insights into the sustainability of sports lighting.

The official kickoff of #ADOGreen was conducted by none other than Sports Alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer, Mobility and Energy Transition Alderman Arjan Kapteijns, General Manager of ADO Den Haag Natascha van Grinsven-Admiraal, and ADO Den Haag’s goalkeeper and international player Hugo Wentges. In an engaging conversation, the power of collaboration for this new initiative was emphasized. Meanwhile, the updated #ADOGreen website was beautifully displayed on the big screen.

At the end of this special evening, the launch of #ADOGreen was initiated with a symbolic press of the famous red button, officially coloring the future ADOGreen. After the event, everyone enjoyed refreshments before the exciting match between ADO Den Haag and VVV-Venlo began. The launch of #ADOGreen was further discussed in the official ADO Den Haag podcast after the game.

With the launch of #ADOGreen, ADO Den Haag has taken a significant step toward sustainability and social responsibility, and they eagerly anticipate the positive impact of this new direction. Alongside their partners and stakeholders, they will embrace and expand the club’s green future. #ADOGreen, the path to a sustainable (ADO) The Hague!
