Be part of the Football Works Festival 2020 in Vught

Join us on Thursday 25 June 2020 for a unique tournament and conference within the walls of a Dutch prison. EFDN and the Dutch Department of Justice (DJI) will host then the 5th edition of the annual Football Works Festival at the prison in Vught, the Netherlands. EFDN and the DJI have joined forces to grow and develop the tournament further.

The event is the perfect platform for football clubs and prisons from across Europe that offer work placement programmes for vulnerable target groups. Former participants, employees and role models are rewarded with a unique experience within the walls of a Dutch prison, showing the world that ‘Sport Works’ actually contributes to a safer society.

Teams from EFDN members are welcome to be part of this unique event in the Netherlands during the Euro 2020. Every team consist of a maximum of 10 players and 2 accompanying coaches. The team players must have been people who are or have been in prison or who have participated in a re-socialisation or employability programme through sports/football. Staff members of those programmes are welcome to play too. Mixed teams are a good example of working together!

Thanks to the cooperation between EFDN and the Dutch Justice Department we can offer free transportation in the Netherlands, free accommodation in Vught for 2 nights and free food during the tournament.

If you want to participate with a team, clubs have to complete a form that was sent to them by EFDN/DJI. In case we have more registrations than available spaces we will select the teams by the rule “First come, first served”.

Football Works Conference

Together with the football tournament, which will involve 12 teams from across Europe, there is also a special Football Works Conference. Representatives of prisons, governments, football clubs and NGOs can attend presentations of best practice programmes and share their knowledge and experience. In case you would like to attend the conference, please register on our website. As the conference and tournament will be inside the prison walls, we need your registration before 30 April 2019.
