BSC Young Boys special exhibition opens its doors at the Bern Historical Museum

On May 11th, the special exhibition for the 125th anniversary of BSC Young Boys opens its doors at the Bern Historical Museum.

On March 14, 1898, four high school students from Bern founded their own football club – FC Young Boys. For the first few years, the team played directly behind the Bern Historical Museum (Bernisches Historisches Museum), on the site of today’s Museumsquartier.

“We are very pleased to welcome YB back to his very first football field and are taking the opportunity to experience a piece of Bernese history at the original location.”

Thomas Pauli-Gabi, museum director at Bern Historical Museum

The exhibition is dedicated to the eventful history of the club in four chronological focal points: the founding period, the golden fifties, the impending end in the nineties and the great emotions surrounding the sporting successes in 2018. Memories of YB legends and Bernese: inside bring personal moments to life while a cabinet allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the YB fan curve. Some important exhibits from the history of the Young Boys such as the “Meisterlatte” from 2018, the championship trophy from the 1950s or a piece of the old Wankdorf Stadium will be present.

The exhibition not only invites visitors to discover, but also to play and participate. Activities such as shooting at a soccer goal, trying out old training methods or winning at boccia will be offered to the visitors. The exhibition extends to the former soccer field of the early young boys in the museum park with a playful and sporty post-race. At ten experience stations, players of all ages can actively devote themselves to the YB story and football history.

Yellow-black supporting programme

From October 18 to November 15, 2023, the successful series of events “An Evening at the Museum” all about football will be continued. Families can live out their yellow and black handicraft skills from May to the beginning of October in the Sunday family workshops under the motto “The Museum in Fan Fever” and also knit the longest football fan scarf for YB.

The Bernisches Historisches Museum was in charge of developing the exhibition, with YB as a cooperation partner and with the cooperation of the fan umbrella organization Ostkurve Bern. The BSC Young Boys is very happy to present its club history to the people of Bern in a very special way at an original location in the middle of the city of Bern and recommends all YB fans to visit the exhibition. The exhibition runs from May 11, 2023 to January 7, 2024.
