Burnley FC in the Community and Islamic Relief Unite for Refugee Tournament

On Friday 16th June, Burnley FC in the Community, in collaboration with Islamic Relief, ran a successful tournament at The Leisure Box for Refugee Week.

The event witnessed the participation of ten teams, including Liverpool, Everton, Middlesborough, Doncaster, Fylde, Big Hearts, Partick Thistle, Leeds, and Derby. Divided into two groups, the teams showcased their skills and determination throughout the morning matches. The top two teams from each group progressed to compete against each other in the afternoon session.

During the lunch break, players had the opportunity to partake in Friday prayers and enjoy the generous refreshments provided by Islamic Relief.

The afternoon concluded with an intense final between Leeds and Partick Thistle, both playing for victory. Partick Thistle emerged as the tournament champions, proudly receiving the trophy at the end of the day. All other participating teams were honoured with participation medals for their brilliant performances.

“We’ve had an amazing day today, it’s great to see so many different clubs from across the UK making the journey to come to our tournament. Everyone is getting involved, speaking to each other, and making the most of our time together”.

Lizzie, Burnley FC Social Inclusion Manager

Before bidding farewell, each player received a tote bag donated by Islamic Relief, filled with goodies to take home as souvenirs.

Burnley FC in the Community extends its sincere gratitude to Islamic Relief for their invaluable support in making this event a success. BFCitC look forward to hosting future tournaments and continuing to provide enriching experiences for participants.
