Celtic FC provides more than 29,000 meals and essentials to vulnerable families

Celtic FC Foundation, in partnership with Glasgow North-East Foodbank, can today confirm that it has provided more than 29,000 meals and essentials to more than 1,400 vulnerable adults and children through our free self-referral service.

The service was set up in April last year, and aims to support those financially impacted by COVID-19 not just self-isolating, in order to ensure we reach those who wouldn’t normally have a referral to a Foodbank, but urgently need food.

This includes, but is not limited to people who have recently lost employment, are working on reduced hours, or are currently applying for a new benefit claim.

So far, 17,740kg worth of food has been distributed through the service and essentials such as sanitary products, pet food, nappies and toiletries have also been provided.

Tony Hamilton, Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, said: “I am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped us provide initiatives such as this through this pandemic.

“That help has enabled the Football For Good Fund to have a big impact for those who need it most. Our partnership with the Glasgow NE Foodbank is a great example of organisations working together, and it’s clearly benefitting many people in our communities.”

Linda Stuart, Project Manager at Glasgow North East Foodbank added: “Our partnership with the Foundation over the years has been a massive factor in the Foodbank being able to assist our local communities in times of need.

“As the number of people losing their jobs and being furloughed rises our partnership with the Foundation is increasingly important.

“We value the ongoing support we receive from the Foundation and without this we would struggle to be able to help as many people as we currently do.”
