Chelsea Foundation pan-disability team enjoys European success

There was European success for a Chelsea Foundation pan-disability side when they travelled to Switzerland to take part in the Football Is More Special Adventure Camp.

Organised by the Football is More Foundation, the players representing Chelsea were joined by their peers from other professional teams, including Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Benfica for the five-day camp.

The Chelsea Foundation side, made up of eight players, flourished during the competition, qualifying for the knockout stages with five wins and a draw before beating Benfica 5-1 in the final.

Lifelong memories

Leading the tour was Foundation coach Ellie Crabb. She said:

”We are so incredibly proud of the team for their achievement in the Special Adventure Camp.

”It was not only a fantastic learning experience and opportunity for all involved but highlighted what we as a Foundation strive to create within disability football. I am very proud to see our staff and players interacting with other clubs from across Europe while representing our own to such a high level.

”Providing these opportunities creates lifelong memories for which the players are hugely grateful; made even more special to them by being crowned the champions.

”We thank our hosts, Football is More, and the clubs we shared the trip with; all who have had a massive impact on our staff and players moving forward.”

The competition on the final day of the event was part of a larger Special Adventure Camp with the focus on promoting inclusion, with each club sharing knowledge and understanding of inclusion in football.

Prior to the tournament there were mixed training sessions led by Foundation coaches and coaches from other clubs and a showcase event played in front of the House of Parliament in Bern, which even had Swiss MPs joining the action.
