Dávid Hancko trains with the Feyenoord Street League

More than 120 Feyenoord Street League participants and children from the neighbourhoods around Sportplaza Feyenoord were in for a treat on Wednesday afternoon. None other than Feyenoord defender Dávid Hancko came to give training at the sports complex on Rotterdam-Zuid.

From the moment the Feyenoord player arrived, all eyes were on him. After a brief explanation about the Feyenoord Street League, he participated in various parts of the football training. In the finishing exercise, Hancko delivered the cross, after which the ball went extra hard into the goal for many of the children, and in two-on-two he played as a defender in the section shooting at goal.

Role models are important

With his visit to Sportplaza Feyenoord, Hancko wants to show that, as a role model, he likes to contribute to Feyenoord’s social activities and programmes.

‘You notice that the children here really follow Feyenoord. They know all the players. If one of us comes along, it might spark something in them. Maybe not only to have fun with football, but also to develop further in it and maybe go to the Feyenoord Academy.’

Smiling children

The children were naturally very happy that Hancko was there. Although some were a bit tense before the special training session.

‘I was really very excited to go here today, and I’m trying extra hard.

‘It was really nice to be here and be able to do something with these kids. You can see they are smiling and happy about it, which is nice.’

Goals and deeds in the Street League

The Feyenoord Street League is being organised for the twelfth time this year for children from the upper classes of primary schools in Rotterdam-South. In this street football competition, it is not only winning the matches that is important, as most points can be earned outside the lines. With a sporting attitude, good behaviour and community contributions, such as cleaning the neighbourhood or making and sending Christmas cards for the elderly.
