Derby County Community Trust take part in PL Kicks Cup

This week Derby County Community Trust have been involved in the Premier League Kicks Cup.

Running over three days, the tournament brought together sides from 90 clubs across the country and saw special guest appearances including from England star Lucy Staniforth.

The Trust entered teams on all three days of the tournament with our boys’ team finishing second in their group on day one with three wins, two draws and just one defeat. Day two saw the female side take part and they were named winners of the Fair Play Award, which was voted for by the other teams and by the officials on the day. On the final day our Pan Disability team reached the semi final stage losing 2-1 to AFC Bournemouth after an unbeaten group stage.

“It was an amazing competition for our young people to be involved in. I am proud of how they have done throughout the tournament and how they have represented themselves and the Trust.”(…)“Events like this show the opportunities that Kicks offers the participants and how it can bring people together from a variety of different backgrounds through the power of football.”

More about the PL Kicks Sessions

Derby County Community Trust’s Premier League Kicks project has been running for over ten years and provides free sports activities for 8-19 year olds. Delivered in the hearts of communities in local parks and in community centres, it takes activity to the doorsteps of children and young people who might not be able to attend otherwise.

Participants are encouraged to not just take part in sessions but also to represent Derby County at a regional and national level and engage with important initiatives. Workshops are delivered on pertinent issues including knife crime, racism and hate crime and rail safety. We also engage local secondary schools in these initiatives.

The project works with key partners including the local authority, youth offending teams, housing associations, the Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner, local health service providers, Kick It Out, Show Racism the Red Card, Derbyshire FA and the Prince’s Trust. Sessions are also delivered in collaboration with education providers, including schools, colleges and universities.
