EFDN Highlights: February 2022

As 2022 comes to an end, EFDN invites you to look back on this year’s top activities, projects and news stories. Take a look at some highlights from February.

EFDN Programmes at Ferencvárosi Torna Club

Community Champions League

The club visited three elementary schools and H52 Youth office in Budapest. The focus of these sessions was on a supportive environment and the role of the family in young people’s lives. The workshops were moderated by the H52 Youth Office. Player & athlete involvement is a key element of the Hungarian club’s projects. This month their guests were Mihály Kótai – former boxing athlete, Kristóf Pap – athlete, Márk Spitz – waterpolo player and Evelin Fenyvesi, women’s football player.

Despite the pandemic challenges, the Community Champions League project of the European Football for Development Network and Ferencvárosi Torna Club still took place and the club is glad to their dedicated project staff members, players and athletes, and their partners and participants in schools.

Scoring For Health

Ferencvárosi Torna Club continued delivering sessions in the Scoring for Health project. They visited three classes of an elementary school in Budapest. The focus of these sessions was on healthy nutrition, including the importance of a healthy breakfast & water consumption. The sessions were moderated by the the foundation’s nutritionist.

The club also visited a supermarket with their participants, where they had the opportunity to learn about healthy snacks & conscious shopping.

Malmö FF finalist in volunteer award

Every year since 2007, Swedes have been able to nominate enthusiasts from the Swedish club scene in Folkspel’s Årets Eldsjäl (Fire Soul of the Year project). The winners are awarded at an annual gala – the Fire Soul Gala. The purpose of the Fire Soul of the Year and the Fire Soul Gala is to highlight the importance and significance of Swedish voluntary life and the important cogs, the fire souls, that make it possible for voluntary associations to survive.

For 12 years, Malmö FF has been working hard against racism – and to help build a better society. They are a big family with a big and strong voice – that is why they have to be involved and contribute to a better region, says Karin Heri, responsible for sustainability and social issues in Malmö FF. The Sports Association of the Year category is a collaboration between Folkspels Årets Eldsjäl and Riksidrottsförbundet. The category changes theme each year, based on key areas that sport has to work with. This year, RF has called for inclusive clubs, for everyone regardless of skin colour and ethnicity, that work to challenge whiteness norms and counter racism. Malmö FF was one of four finalists for this year’s gala and the club is constantly working to challenge whiteness standards and counter racism, both by preventing and reacting when something happens.
