As 2022 comes to an end, EFDN invites you to look back on this year’s top activities, projects and news stories. Take a look at some highlights from July.

Community Champions Tournament

On the 9th of July, the final event of the Eredivisie Community Champions League took place. The location of this event was very special: The KNVB Campus in Zeist, headquarters of the Dutch Football Association. There were not only football games scheduled at the event, but also workshops given by judoka Roy Meyer and boxer Nouchka Fontijn.

This final event ultimately determined which club would become the Community Champion of The Netherlands. Congratulations to RKC Waalwijk for becoming the Community Champion!

Werder Bremen and diversity in football

SV Werder Bremen took another important step in addressing the issues of modern society and embarked on a journey to tackle the challenges ahead together with strong partners.

SV Werder Bremen became an official cooperation partner of the initiative FUSSBALL KANN MEHR gGmbH, which offers professional services around the topics of diversity, gender equality and sustainability in football.

“We believe in the initiative’s guiding principle ‘We can do more!’ and want to be involved as a cooperation partner in this new network to support the promotion of women and diversity at Werder Bremen and in football and to show that football fulfils its social responsibility and acts sustainably.”

Klaus Filbry, Chairman of the Board of Werder Bremen.

FUSSBALL KANN MEHR is about the promotion of women and diversity in clubs and associations, but also about career-accompanying qualification of women playing football. Among other things, scholarships are intended to help them shape a successful career in football after their active career.

Furthermore, the initiative is committed to cooperating with institutions that promote the future viability of football and its role in society. This includes, among others, the Common Goal movement, with which Werder cooperates in the form of club membership.

SV Werder Bremen was one of the first clubs to join this network, along with Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart. “We want to set important signals and impulses in these areas and will try to enliven the cooperation with very active networking. At the same time, there will be concrete offers for our staff. Because we are convinced: football can do more,” Klaus Filbry concluded.

SV Werder Bremen’s CSR work is implemented with the support of their CSR partners. For years, they have been supporting the projects and programmes of WERDER BEWEGT-LEBENSLANG and thus making a valuable contribution to the implementation of the social and societal commitment of the Green-Whites.

Jorge Miranda , director of the Benfica Foundation, was also in the Invicta city and welcomed the “fair prize” given to the solidarity organization of the eagles.

“It is a fair prize for the Benfiquistas for their solidarity, but also for the Portuguese, because, in reality, the Foundation unites the country around solidarity , as seen with Ukraine, but also in other causes”, he considered.

Remember that, in the first half of 2022 , the Benfica Foundation helped more than 57,600 people , a value very close to the maximum already reached by the solidarity institution, which stands at 64,728 people in 2019. The Benfica Foundation’s activity is centered on three fundamental axes : educational projects, inclusive sport and Benfica Faz Bem.
